THE BUILDINGS

Old buildings are constant reminders of a town's culture and complexity.  They are the visible, tangible remnants of our rich cultural history and a link to our ancestors and their daily lives.  Some of the buildings around the square go as far back as the Civil War.  If you have ever wondered "what was there before..." or "I can remember when" then this is your chance to explore how the city developed over the years.

The East Side of the Square is on 31W, more commonly known as Main Street.  Centrally located  is the Gallery on the Square, formerly Shugart and Willis Drug Store.

The South Side of the square runs along Cedar Street which is a part of the route from Russellville to Scottsville.  This side of the square is probably the best preserved as all but one of the buildings were built around the turn of the century.

West Side

The West Side of the square runs along College Street.  This side is dominated by the First United Methodist Church.

The North Side of the square runs along Kentucky (formerly Depot) Street.  This side home to a couple of the older buildings on the square, the Masonic Building and the Bryan Building, (The Old Franklin Favorite).

Court House

There have been different courthouses over the years and additional buildings on the court house square.
